10 Pieces Every Chic Woman Needs This Fall

Every season, there are a new crop of trends that sweep in and shake up the fashion world, and we love getting them in our store first. But also, every season there are those basic updated pieces that every girl needs. After checking out the Fall shows early last Spring to visiting high-end designer’s showrooms in L.A. in June, I’ve created a list of the 10 very basic pieces that a girl should have to mix and match to create a stylish, updated wardrobe.

Statement Pants. Every stylish girl has a couple of pairs of fun pants in their wardrobe. Take the summer trend and bring into fall with some deep cherry colors, navy, plum and emerald green–and maybe in one of this Fall’s favorite fabric, corduroy. For the more fashion-forward girl, make sure you have at least one pair in a bold print. Wide-leg pants are also making their chic comeback. We already have some printed styles in store or you can get some online here. There are these gorgeous printed styles we ordered from Alice & Olivia that I have since been dreaming about.

The Black “Dressy” Top. Since so much emphasis is on pants this season, every girl needs an updated go-to top that goes with everything. I’d suggest investing in a good quality silk, all-over beaded one, or one with leather details that will look just as great with basic skinnies as with fun printed styles.

Leather Jacket. This should go without saying. Every girl needs a classic leather jacket for this Fall and every Fall. It’s the expected topper that can bring unexpected style. It’s perfect over your t-shirt and jeans–sure–but looks even cooler when casually thrown on over a cocktail dress or floor-length gown. When buying a leather jacket, make sure to get one that flatters your frame. Go for a fitted style with classic moto or bomber details. If you want the softest, go for lamb’s leather.

Striped Tee. Striped tees always make a great layering piece. They also look great with your colored pants. We have some in store or online here.

Pointy Toe Pumps. The classic has been back for a while and is still as chic as ever. The pointy toe makes your gams look super long. Sexy and flattering–what more could you want?

Sparkly Dress (Or Mini Skirt). The 20s are roaring this Fall, and sequins are bigger than ever! Go for a basic black dress or, for more fun, one of the many colors we have coming. And don’t go by the old rule that sequins are for after 5. Pop on that leather jacket I mentioned and some booties, and you’ve got a fabulous daytime look.

Fur Jacket. Whether real or faux, cropped fur styles are always chic and go with everything from t-shirts to black tie. We just acquired some major vintage furs and have some new ones coming soon. Check out our vintage bomber styles in our “Archive” section online  or in store.

Crossbody bag. Whether going to football games or to cocktail parties, we need to keep our hands free. The crossbody bag is a no-brainer. We’re huge fans of this MAC Mini from Rebecca Minkoff that comes in multiple colors. Take the chain strap off, and it’s a clutch. Get yours here

Updated Flats. It’s time to put the tired old ballet flat in the back of closet. For a look that’s comfortable yet stylish, update your casual go-tos with some loafers, flat short boots or oxfords like these.

The Printed Button Down. Ok, so silk button downs are always on my list, but it’s this season’s prints that make them even more fun. Of course, Equipment does the button down like no one else, and they have leopard, floral and metallic designs that are perfect. Tuck them in for the updated style for this year. Bonus points for a tied style like this one.
